Merge Dims
Function Merge Dims within Table with keys Table Merge Dims keysreturns another Table object produced by the original one by merging the specified axes.
The axes are specified by a specially formatted text that must be passed as input to the key Grouping
In each axis group, the axes must be consecutive.
The affected axes in the produced table will be replaced by a single axis spanned by multi-component coordinates composed by concatenating the original coordinates.
In mathematical terms, the new axis can be viewed as the cartesian product of the merged axes.
It follows, the number of coordinates along the new merged axis equals the product of the numbers of coordinates along each original axis.
For example, consider a table A with 7 axes denoted as A₁ A₂ A₃ A₄ A₅ A₆ A₇ that are assumed to be ordered in the indicated sequence.
Assume that two merging operations apply, one affecting the axes A₂ A₃ and another one affecting the axes A₅ A₆ A₇
Then the result will be a table B with 4 axes B₁ B₂ B₃ B₄ defined as:
(B₁ B₂ B₃ B₄) = (A₁ A₂×A₃ A₄ A₅×A₆×A₇)
where × denotes cross product
