Manual

Subtype of Calculation Mode

Corresponds to the usual "manual calculation" Excel mode.
In this mode, Excel will never carry out any calculation without the user's explicit instruction.
The latter is typically accomplished through the respective Excel menu option or more conveniently through pressing F9 (all workbooks) or Shift-F9 (active sheet only).
This is the standard mode when working with spreadsheets containing cpu-intensive formulas, such as those involving Monte Carlo algorithms, which take very long time to complete.
Then it is typical for the user to first make all spreadsheet adjustments under manual recalculation mode and only at the end to press F9 to kick off the formulas execution.
This mode is also recommended before one opens a spreadsheet of unknown origin.
